Playlist for the Unpopular Music Webcast for July 22, 2017

In a program completely reassembled this morning, we try to break up the usual formula. So on offer we present, among other things, tracks from two of the essential jazz albums of 1993, summer jams (and remember these are my summer jams (one of which breaks the Unpopular Music Manifesto, but also is the Unpopular Music Manifesto)), some early music, and some electronic doo-dads.

See for yourself after the break...

A few observations on today's program -

It is an unplanned coincidence that on both "Side Car" and "Peace" the guitarist takes the second solo and restates the theme before digging into his improvisation.

The title of the Ginsburg track is listed (and announced) as it appears on the CD packaging. The spoken and written text is "N B C B S U P A P I N S L I F E". (And it seems I can not pronounce "vortex" correctly.)

Psyche Rock may be familiar to you as it was the basis for Christopher Tyng's theme song to Futurama.

I credit "Side Car" to Horace Silver. The heat really is getting to me. That's why I post the playlist, here.

I am not obsessed with anyone named Mary Anne.

The argument that there is too much early music in this program is perhaps a valid one, yet, it is not one with which I agree.

I recall when I first heard Courtney Barnett talk about throwing off the sheets because its 40 degrees, my thought was "40 degrees, pull up the sheets" until I realized "oh right, it's 40 not-American degrees." That is hot.
