See the playlist after the break...
The BFR archive recorder was out-of-sync, so I didn't take home the mic breaks from the first half-hour. No great loss I assure you. Below are some of the comments I made, plus some others I didn't get around to making then and later.
I keep a list of the tracks that I've played on the program over the years, and being somewhat certain I'd played the version of Caravan from Money Jungle sometime in the past, I double-checked and was surprised to find I've never played any version of Caravan.
The title "Vizcaino" likely refers to the old Spanish term for a Basque speaking person, and not to journeyman utility infielder José Vizcaíno, despite spending two of his 18 big-league seasons with Terry Riley's hometown San Francisco Giants.
Frasquita Serenade is based on the instrumental work derived from the aria “Hab’ ein blaues Himmelbett” from Franz Lehar's 1922 operetta "Frasquita." The violinist Fritz Kreisler made a popular transcription/encore piece, and John Kirby, one of the dedicatees of Don Byron's Bug Music album, had a hit with his dance band arrangement.
In Bob Dylan's Visions of Johanna, I've never been sure if Louise "seems like the mirror" or "seems like Vermeer." On Robyn Hitchcock's Robyn Sings, he performs the song twice, once solo acoustic and once with a band which sounds like the Band, using these two variations respectively. (I generally prefer Dylan's solo versions than the band version on Blonde on Blonde (which is not with the Band), but Robyn's band version is quite good.) (By the way, the official version at BobDylan.com says "mirror.")
One thing about live albums from 1979, as opposed to more recent live albums, is that you don't have persons in the audience going "whoo" or even "whooooooooooooooooooo" at the end of the song.
Although the Soundtrack Factory label did specialize in putting out crappy sounding transfers from not original sources, Orson Wells was not always as attentive to the sound in his films as he was to the visuals.
